Remo’s Limestrail

After Piet’r Pad during 2021 and 2022 we had a lot of hikes but none of them were part of a long distance trail. Connecting during a ‘busy’ week for me is difficult, and I was longing for a new hike with Petra, but I couldn’t make up my mind.

Last week I chose a route close to home, and it happened to cross the Roman Limes Trail; a well-known trail along the northern frontier of the once so vast Roman Empire. After Piet’r Pad, from north to south, it was handed to us, from west to east, obviously. As an official pilgrim, I was planning a pilgrim’s hike to Rome at a later stage in my life, so this has to be the prelude. We choose to walk from east to west – au contraire – and end our trail with a skinny-dip in Katwijk at the Sea.

Petra was in the assumption that the trail would start in Berg en Dal, but(t) I found out it actually starts, with an over 60 km hike, in Germany in the city of Xanten. I was not prepared for that, so we decided to begin with section XVII and postpone the German part to April.

Andiamo. Muoviti :)
